Hello, this is Dr. Kim Hyung-taek from Kowon Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Today, I’d like to show you a case where the patient underwent nose surgery after removing Bayco threads.

At one time, it was quite popular to perform “petit” nose jobs using scaffold threads like Bayco, Missco, and Hyco.

These threads resemble tree branches. After inserting the thread, it is pulled in the opposite direction of the branch-like structure to lift the tissue, which would raise a low nose or slightly extend the nasal tip.

The reason why so many people are now removing Bayco threads is that unlike Missco and Hyco, which are absorbable threads, Bayco is made of non-absorbable, permanent threads.

Even though there are threads and Artecoll filler (a non-absorbable filler) inside the nose, the aesthetic result is unsatisfactory. The nasal tip is drooping, making the nose look longer.

We decided to remove both the Bayco threads and the Artecoll filler.

Although these “petit” threads are said to be easy to remove, that’s not true at all. In fact, removing regular silicone implants is much easier, simpler, and has less impact on the surrounding tissue.

These threads are hooked into the tissue like branches, so removal is time-consuming and complicated.

In this patient’s case, the threads had clumped together, forming a mass that resembled an implant. As a result, we had to remove the entire tissue where the threads were embedded.

After removing all the threads, we performed a secondary nose surgery without using any implants, focusing only on the nasal tip.

Since the nasal tip was wide, we performed a nasal tip cartilage suture and septal extension surgery. The result looks much more natural.

We tend to make decisions too easily when it comes to “petit” procedures, but even if things turn out well, there are definitely cases where the patient is dissatisfied or needs to have the procedure reversed.

It’s important to consider this and make cautious decisions, not just for surgeries, but also for “petit” procedures.
