Hello, this is Dr. Kim Hyung-taek from Kowon Plastic Surgery Clinic.
Today, I’d like to introduce before and after photos of a rhinoplasty performed following a previous orthognathic surgery.
Many people are curious about how the shape of the nose may change after orthognathic surgery.
The changes in the jawline due to orthognathic surgery can vary greatly between individuals.
Depending on factors such as nose shape, skin, and bone structure, some people experience changes in their nasal appearance, such as an upturned nose or a more flared nose.
Although efforts are made to minimize the impact on other areas during orthognathic surgery, changes in the jaw's position or angle can weaken the support from the septal cartilage, leading to these nasal changes.
The patient preferred not to use artificial implants such as silicone, so we opted for rib cartilage and autologous rib grafts for the surgery.
Many people have reservations about using silicone implants, but rib grafts offer several advantages as an alternative.
They have a lower absorption rate post-surgery, allowing for more predictable results compared to silicone.
Other materials, like autogenous dermis, often absorb over time, leading to changes in shape such as a lower or blunter appearance.
Although the patient had previously undergone cartilage stitching, it was not properly done.
We re-opened the area to properly stitch the cartilage and elevate the nasal tip.
For the nasal tip, we used rib cartilage, and for the bridge, we inserted autologous rib grafts as a substitute for silicone.
Despite some residual swelling, the results appear very natural.
