Primary rhinoplasty at Kowon PS > Real Review

Hello! I wanted to share my experience with Kowon Plastic Surgery. I went in for a consultation in April after reading reviews on Purseblog.

During the consultation, I discussed the results I wanted with Juyeon, the consultant, and showed her a few pictures. They then took an MRI scan of my face. After that, I met with the doctor, who took pictures of my face and used Photoshop to show me the potential results. He analyzed the proportions of my face and suggested that I get a silicone implant with septum and ear cartilage for support. There was no need to do an alar reduction because the nose projection would be sufficient once he fixed the bridge. He also noticed that my mouth appeared protruding because of my flat Asian nose, which he planned to correct by pulling the columella.

After that, I spoke with Juyeon again, and she gave me the price for the surgery. It was on the expensive side, but after checking reviews on the Unni app, I realized they didn't overcharge me, as the price was similar to what they charge locals. I also wanted to mention that Dr. Kim is the only surgeon at the clinic. He is also an ENT specialist with over 20 years of experience. One reason why other clinics that do massive marketing are so cheap is that they often have young doctors perform the surgery as training before opening their own clinics. This was one of the reasons I chose Kowon, Dr. Kim is well-known, and he is the only doctor there. Kowon is also a smaller clinic, and he only performs 2 to 3 surgeries a day.

Anyway, I got my rhinoplasty done on August 16th, so about 2 weeks ago. I met with Juyeon and the doctor again in the morning to review what we had discussed in April (type of nose, type of cartilage used, etc.). After that, I went to the operating room and was under anesthesia for 2 hours. I didn’t feel any pain in my nose, the only discomfort was in my ear, where he harvested cartilage. It didn't hurt, but it was definitely aching and throbbing a bit. My pain tolerance is pretty high, so it really depends on the individual, but I wouldn’t say it was unbearable at all. The most difficult part was breathing; I had cotton in my nose for the next 3 days, making it impossible to breathe. Eating was difficult as well since I couldn’t smell anything and had to breathe through my mouth. The clinic gave us pumpkin soup to drink, but definitely get some more, along with eggs or other bland food.

I actually had surgery with my brother, who was scheduled right after me. He didn’t have any complications, but I did develop a hematoma in my nose that the doctor drained every day for 6 days. They made sure the hematoma was gone before I flew back home. You can schedule a deswelling laser session every day, which is what I did. I went in every day for the laser treatment and a check-up on my nose.

Now, I am back in my country and on day 18 post-op. I only had mild swelling, so my nose doesn’t look as high as it did when they removed the splint. Initially, I looked mixed because my bridge was so high, lol. It is healing nicely, and I’ve received lots of compliments from family members. Overall, I am very happy that I chose Kowon. I had a great experience with the doctor and the staff, they really took good care of me. Thank you to Juyeon for answering all my questions before and after the surgery, and even now that I’m back home.
