Primary Rhinoplasty at Kowon > Real Review

I am now 13 days post-op, and providing an update.

Surgery day: I went in around 5pm, and I think I finished surgery around 9:30pm. Juyeon the consultant said that the surgery took a bit longer than planned because Dr Kim wanted to make sure it looked good, which was fine with me. I woke up still pretty dazed and dizzy, and took a cab back to my airbnb.

Days 1-3: I have to say that the overall experience was pretty painless. I never experienced much pain at all and I have very low pain tolerance. I am also very grateful that I didn't bleed much. I'd told the doctor that I have low iron so I tend to bleed more heavily and it takes me longer to stop bleeding, and during the consultation he said he would try his best to minimise bleeding and I think he really did. Other people who also got rhinoplasty at other clinics whom I met during my trip bled A LOT more than me. I know the amount of bleeding depends on the individual and the procedures done but I feel like the doctor kept his word and tried to minimise my bleeding as mine was significantly less. The first three days were also the most uncomfortable because of all the packing stuffed in my nose, waking up with dry mouth and throat, and there is a lot of swelling.

Day 4-7: Once the packing was out, it was more comfortable however this was when the swelling and bruising was at worst. The area around my eyes completely swelled up and turned yellow and bruised. However again there was no pain, the challenge was mostly mental as you see your face change so much. In fact the most painful experience throughout was actually the antibiotic injections that they give you twice... Those hurt SO MUCH! Removing the stitches didn't hurt either. I went in every day for laser de-swelling, which they offer for free.

Cast and splint removal was on day 5. This was also pretty painless. Now in terms of the result.... I was told many times that your nose is super swollen post-op and you won't see the result till months later however this still didn't prepare me for when I got the cast removed. It is really shocking looking at a new nose and face. And as much as you try to remind yourself that it will continue to change, you can't help but judge the result when you see it.... And at the time, I felt like it was too high and pointed and not close to what I had expected. Even though everyone reassured me that it was the swelling and it would change, I still couldn't help but be very concerned.

Now at 13 days post-op, I can say that there is already a significant change and I am really growing to like the result! It is so true when people say that there is SO MUCH swelling post-op and that it will continue to change. When the cast came off, my tip and nostrils were so high, but they have now already dropped and I am very pleased with the angle and in fact I hope it doesn't continue to drop too much. My tip has gotten smaller and less pointy, and has softened up as the swelling goes down. It is still very early but I can see that it will only continue to get better as time goes on. It has been such an emotional week, going from "Omg this is too dramatic" to "Hmm I think I can see it starting to change" to "Wow I think I'm starting to like how it looks...". Overall at this stage, I am pleased with the result. It is not 100% yet but 13 days is still very early and I think it will get better from here and if someone asked me, I would say yes, I am satisfied and would recommend Kowon.

One thing to mention is the service I've received has been great. Juyeon is extremely responsive on Kakao, and it feels like she went through this journey with me. I not only got rhino done at Kowon, but I also did some facial treatments like rejuran and botox, and she gave me very reasonable quotes.

Another update is that they now do tax refunds! So you can claim VAT refund if you are a foreigner.
